La Inconclusa
THE UNFINISHED
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Zamora de Hidalgo, known as "The Unfinished", was built between 1840 and 1879. The architect of the work was Nicolás Luna.
This cathedral has too many events that contributed to this could not be finished first being that this was carried out in the middle of the Mexican revolution as the Cristero War, between this time its construction was not even half done, one of the following reasons is the supposed loss of the original plans by the military occupation, these same occupied one of the walls of this sacred enclosure for the execution, after this the cathedral has several uses such as basketball courts, a secondary school and even a garbage truck center being recovered by the goddess much later and finished 100 years later thus giving it the name of La Inconclusa.
This beautiful cathedral can be seen anywhere in Zamora, just look up and see its enormous towers. As we approach its façade we notice the entrance that rises in three large arches
with enormous wooden doors. Its façade uses a Neo-Gothic style with two high towers with gargoyles, five naves (longitudinal spaces that extend from the main entrance to the presbytery or transept) and buttresses designed to be able to support the weight of the central dome as well as the elevation of the church.
The Zamora Cathedral is a must-see, steeped in history and impressive from the outside. I fondly remember this church because I used to pass by it as a child and near it you can eat some delicious Zamora chongos that may make me remember this place with greater appreciation.
